Applications

Creating random values within a specific range to add an element of randomness to sound or modulation.

Description

Pingable Scaled Random outputs a random value on command. Values can encompass the full range (-1.0 to 1.0 or -10V to 10V), or can be scaled and offset to fall within a given range. A quantize option is also available via the Config menu to restrict the output to only a given number of discrete values.

Signal Flow

The signal flow of Pingable Scaled Random is:

Noise generator > Quantizer (if engaged) > Scale > Offset

Config Menu Options

Quantize Output (yes/no)

Engages or disengages the level quantizer. Default off/no.

Parameters

trig

A rising edge on this input causes the unit to generate a new random value.

levels

Control Type Has Sub-chain? Sub-chain Parameters Fader Scale
Gain/Bias yes gain (0 to 1)

bias (0 to 1)

linear

If the quantizer is engaged (via the Config menu), the level parameter specifies how many discrete values can be generated.

scale

Control Type Has Sub-chain? Sub-chain Parameters Fader Scale
Gain/Bias yes gain(0 to 1)

bias (0 to 1)

linear

Scales the range of the output. At a setting of 1 outputs a full range of values from -1 to 1. Decreasing this will narrow the range of the output.

offset

Control Type Has Sub-chain? Sub-chain Parameters Fader Scale
Gain/Bias yes gain (-1 to 1)

bias (-1 to 1)

linear

Applies a DC output the output in a positive or negative direction.
