Applications

  • "Modulating the modulator"
  • Adding vibrato or similar movement to an otherwise static or slowly changing signal.
  • Inverting signals so that a positive value becomes negative and vice versa.
  • Ring modulation, in the sense of multiplying two signals together.

If you are having trouble getting this VCA to close all the way because your modulation source does not output zero accurately then try the Linear Unipolar VCA instead.


Description

This unit is used to modulate the amplitude of one signal with another signal. Literally, this unit's input signal is multiplied by the value of the level parameter and then, if the containing chain is stereo, panning is applied.

Parameters

level

This parameter controls the amount by which the incoming signal is multiplied.

pan

This parameter only shows up when the Mixer Channel is inserted into a stereo chain. The pan amount for the left and right channels follows the behavior depicted in the following graph:

In other words, a value of -1 will hard pan to the left, a value of +1 will hard pan to the right, and a value of zero will pan to the center (no attenuation for both channels).
